Become a Mentor in Four Easy Steps
1. Complete and Submit a Mentoring Application
If the application links do not work, please e-mail email@example.com or call (904) 384-1361 x4247 to request a Mentoring Application.
To check the status of your mentor application, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 904-384-1361 x4247.
2. Attend a Mentor Training
Once your volunteer mentor application has been received, the Take Stock in Children mentor coordinator will contact you to schedule mentor training and to answer any questions you have after reviewing the FAQ section.
If you submitted your application and/or attended training, and have not heard back from a Take Stock in Children staff member, please e-mail email@example.com or call (904) 384-1361 x4247.
3. Complete Level II Background Screen and Duval County Public Schools Volunteer Application
Once you have successfully completed mentor training, our mentor coordinator will provide you instructions on how to complete a Level II background check at not cost to you. In those instructions, you will receive an access code to proceed with registering for fingerprinting at https://www.daontis.com/home.do?from=TSC.
Duval County Public Schools (DCPS), in an effort to ensure the safety of students, now requires volunteers who will be in the schools more than once to complete a volunteer application and background screen, free of charge. To complete the DCPS application, visit www.duvalschools.org/volunteer.
4. Receive Clearance, Match Letter … You’re Ready to Begin Mentoring!
After your fingerprinting session, Level II results from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) usually take no more than two weeks to process. The DCPS registration and screening results are returned in about five business days. Once our office receives sufficient responses from FDLE and DCPS, we will match you with an available Take Stock in Children student at your preferred school*. Contact information for your College Success Coach will be included in your Match Letter. Your College Success Coach will contact you to schedule your initial in-person meeting with your mentee.
*If a student is not available in your preferred geographical area, you will be placed on a waiting list until a student becomes available.
If you have any questions or need further instructions on how to apply to be a Take Stock in Children mentor, please e-mail Kevin Cotton, mentor coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (904) 384-1361 x4247.
